Category: Academic | Department: Department of Global Health and Development | Closing Date: 16 Feb 2017 | The Department of Global Health and Development (GHD) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Health Economics. GHD is a vibrant multidisciplinary department with a globally renowned research portfolio of economic and policy oriented research on major issues in global public health. In addition to being a member of GHD’s economic research group, the post holder will have specific responsibility for projects on priority setting and the economic evaluation of infectious diseases; and take a key role in developing methods in the economic evaluation infectious diseases for application in low and middle income countries. The post holder would work on two projects in the first instance. These two projects are focussed on: a) incorporating equity metrics in infectious diseases models used to inform resource allocation and b) the economic evaluation of neglected tropical diseases.
This successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject, preferably health economics or infectious disease epidemiology, as well as experience conducting research and economic evaluations in low and middle income countries, proven skills and experience in the development and application of dynamic transmission modelling methods for economic evaluation; experience and understanding of systematic review methods, experience of disseminating economic research for policy and practice and a track record of high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with an Assistant Professor position. In addition, it is desirable that the applicant demonstrates an ability to communicate economic methods to a non-specialist audience and has experience of engagement with policy makers and practitioners. The position is held within the Department of Global Health and Development, at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, in their offices in Tavistock Place. The appointment will be full time available immediately for 1 year in the first instance. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Academic Pathway Grade 7, £44,226 - £50,629 per annum including London weighting. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
