Head of Health and Safety (PSS-HS-02)

Category: Professional Support | Department: Safety Office | Closing Date: 23 Feb 2017 | The post holder is responsible for leading the Health and Safety Office and Team and for the provision of competent health and safety advice to the School, both overseas and in the UK, ensuring that the organisation is fully aware and implements where practicable current best practice in all areas relating to health and safety, including oversight of overseas safety issues.
The ideal applicant will have the following:
A relevant degree and formal qualifications
NEBOSH General National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
BioSafety Practitioner Level 1
C&G Award in Education and Training (or equivalent)
Significant experience of working in an academic environment and of working closely with academic staff
Significant experience of undertaking a Safety Advisor related role in a large organisation
Experience of introducing policies, procedures, processes and systems effectively
Experience of developing and maintaining excellent working relations with enforcement agencies, peers, managers, staff and students
Experience of committee work, including co-ordinating the production of papers, devising agendas and writing minutes
Experience of delivering and managing training
The post is full time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional Support Pathway Grade 8 scale in the range £53,447 - £61,380 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
