Strategic Research Officer (PSS-DIR-06)

Category: Professional Support | Department: Directorate | Closing Date: 06 Feb 2017 | The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is seeking to appoint a Strategic Research Officer as part of an institution-wide resource providing comprehensive support to members of academic staff with the identification and preparation of research grant and fellowship applications.
The primary responsibilities of the post-holder are to:
co-ordinate and facilitate the submission of high quality, successful grant applications in line with the School and Faculty research strategies
work closely with both research support staff and academic staff across the School
manage the support mechanisms and internal peer review process for fellowship and grant applications
provide advice and feedback during the planning and preparation stages
disseminate information about grant opportunities
maintain knowledge and resources to support application submission, funding scheme eligibility requirements and conditions of award
assist with the organisation of visits by funding agency representatives to ensure that School staff gain an in-depth understanding of funders’ policies, priorities and working practices.
support the School’s preparation for the Research Excellence Framework, including the identification and development of impact case studies.
The ideal applicant will have a relevant post graduate degree or equivalent research experience, be self-motivated and well-organised with excellent interpersonal skills. The post holder should have knowledge and experience of the research funding sector in the UK and internationally. They should have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work collaboratively with academic and research support staff across the School to deliver support to academics.
The post is full time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional Support Pathway Grade 6 scale in the range £37,889 to £43,028 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
