The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint two Cloud Implementation Engineers to join its ICT Service Department’s Cloud project.  There are two new fixed term posts within the project currently being advertised, the role is a key commitment in delivering DevOps collaboration between development and operations staff throughout all stages in the creating and operating a service and the importance of the delivering an excellent student experience in a service-oriented (ITIL) environment.

Use of cloud services offers the University an opportunity to transform the way services are delivered and consumed; allowing the University to exploit the capacity and expertise of cloud providers to migrate existing systems and implement new solutions with significantly enhanced performance, greater capacity (potential for growth), higher availability and better security.

The successful candidate will have past experience working as a systems or support engineer within an enterprise environment. You will enjoy keeping your existing technical skills honed and developing new ones, so you can make strong contributions to on premise and cloud architecture discussions. As an Implementation Engineer you will establish highly available cloud deployed solutions, analyses and resolves problems associated with the migration and support of the cloud environment including operating system’s servers, hardware, applications, and software whilst maintaining operational services. Ensure standards, methodologies and processes are adhered to, produce and perform DR and BC plans ensuring services are indeed resilient, with good communication skills, presented in a customer focused manner to the University

Desirable skills and Experience in performing the role:

  • Prior experience planning and executing hybrid cloud migrations and transformation projects
  • Network & security design for on premise and cloud deployments
  • Firewalls and security appliances, including VPN’s, load balancing and IPS/IDS
  • Expertise in the analysis of inter-system communications, and the impact on performance along with assocaiated egress and ingress charging
  • Scripting skills (Good PowerShell). Other languages (Ruby etc.) would be a plus
  • Excellent Microsoft Hyper-V knowledge
  • Implementation of cloud and on premise systems that are highly available, scalable, and resilient in design
  • Experience with Automated DR and backup solutions
  • Cloud based backup solution experience is essential, ensuring the environment is operating to expected performance, capacity, disaster recovery and backup service levels
  • Compute and Storage orchestration (or similar) experience would be highly desirable
  • Ability to work with project managers to plan the transition within require timescales
  • Understand the concepts of ITIL, Prince 2 and DevOps
