Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Hours per Week:
Description: Plymouth University is inviting applications for a 28-month Research Fellow post on the ESRC-funded project, Here to Stay? Identity, belonging and citizenship among Eastern European settled migrant children in the UK (a decade after EU Enlargement). This project will be the first to focus specifically on Eastern European migrant children who have lived in the UK for at least three years, and to compare their everyday lives and sense of cultural and national identity and belonging across England and Scotland. It is co-directed by Dr Naomi Tyrrell (Plymouth University), Dr Daniela Sime (University of Strathclyde) and Dr Marta Moskal (University of Glasgow). The post will be based in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher who is committed to high standards of academic work. You will have a PhD in a Social Science subject and/or equivalent research experience. Advanced knowledge of migration research and some experience of working with children/young people are desirable. Experience of reviewing academic research, using qualitative and quantitative methods, writing for publication and presenting research to a wide range of audiences is also expected. The post involves some travel to the research sites and overnight stays and the successful candidate will be expected to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate meetings with families.
You will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service check.
An equivalent Research Fellow post, to be based in Strathclyde, is also being advertised and potential candidates can apply for both posts. This is an excellent opportunity for two early career researchers to work on a multi-disciplinary, multi-sited project. The researchers will join Faculties with thriving teaching and research cultures and will have opportunities to engage with other researchers doing work on migration and with children and young people.
For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Jon Shaw, Associate Head of School (Geography), email@example.com, +44 1752 585963 (the Lead Investigator, Dr Naomi Tyrrell, is currently on maternity leave).
This is a part time post working 22.5 hours per week and is fixed-term for 28 months
