Job description

Lecturer salary from: £32,548

Senior Lecturer salary from: £37,706

The University of Lincoln has recently established a new School of Geography within the College of Science, with its first cohort of undergraduate students enrolled in September 2017. The School is developing interdisciplinary programmes in Human and Physical Geography, complementary to, and extending the University’s existing research portfolio that has distinctive “local to global” agenda.

Understanding the economic and social development of countries in the Global South, within the context of rapid environmental and demographic change, is an essential part of an international geography degree. This post offers the chance to design a new 2nd year module in Development Studies and the Global South and to contribute to the development of 3rd year and masters teaching as the school develops.  The Global South offers a wide range of research opportunities and the successful candidate would be encouraged to work with colleagues in the School and the Lincoln Centre of Water and Planetary Health, to develop new research that will enhance the University’s growing international profile.

The teaching and research focus for the School of Geography is the safety and health of the inhabited Earth. With the world’s population divided between urban centres and rural populations, we also include social issues that affect both, such as crime and deprivation, as well as disease, pollution and natural hazards notably floods and droughts.

The foundational Head of School is Professor Mark Macklin who is a multi-award winning geographer and a world authority in river systems and global environmental change, including flooding and pollution issues. He is also the foundational Director of the Lincoln Centre for Water and Planetary Health.
