Job Description

This post is initially for 6 weeks with a view to future contracts until May 2025.

  • While ideally half time, candidates offering less than 18.5 hours will be considered. Applications for reasonable flexibility of working hours to meet the demands of the post will also be considered. Due to database access limitations, this workload will be delivered in office (QUB campus).
  • Maintain Excel database of all tutors involved in delivery of the undergraduate medical/dental curriculum. Prepare payment forms.
  • Assist in making student payments using internal QUB finance systems (Full QFIS training given).
  • To provide a clerical service within the Office to achieve timely, accurate information and high quality output.
  • Assist in set up of meetings.
  • Compile teaching/timetable information.
  • General duties as required.

Dr Ciara Hackett is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant. 

The successful candidate will contribute to a project for the Athena Swan Committee on perimenopause and menopause: specifically, on the impact of menopause/perimenopause on academic and professional service careers. This research comes in the context of the university?s recent policy on Menopause. Dr. Hackett is looking to commission this research in her capacity as SWAN Champion so that we, via the school Athena Swan Committee, might develop specific law school support across research, service and teaching.

The successful candidate will assist in: 

1) Preparing a review of menopause literature as it relates to career impacts for academic and professional services staff. 

What you?ll get in return 

The successful candidate will receive a contract for 50 hours of research assistance at the rate of ?16.60 per hour. This will likely be completed between February - May 2025, with 5 hours of work per week currently allocated. The successful candidate will receive written credit for their contribution to this research in any outputs that result from this role.

Job description for QWork Assignment

  • Research Assistant in Management (up to a maximum of 4 hours per week for 30 weeks)
  • This part-time role (up to a maximum of 4 hours per week for 30 weeks) will support Dr Sara Melo, Senior Lecturer in Management, in her leading impact project. Supporting the design, implementation, continuous improvement, and effective use of Business Intelligence systems in decision-making at Portuguese NHS hospitals.

 

The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Searching the Internet for examples of toolkits targeted at practitioners in general, and toolkits directly related with the design and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) systems
  • Preliminary scoping literature review on the models used to evaluate the readiness of hospitals to implement BI systems
  • Collaborate in the graphical design of the paper-based versions of a toolkit (draft and final versions) to be targeted at hospital practitioners to support them in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of a hospital BI system.
  • Identification of examples of activities that could be implemented at the different stages of the creation of a national network/community of practice of hospital staff
  • Identification of examples of questionnaires to measure the impact of research dissemination workshops with practitioners

  • Applicants who have an interest in communicating research to non-academic stakeholders.
  • This part-time role is intended for an individual who is currently a PhD student.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. There is no need to know Portuguese as all the Research Assistant work will be in English.

Research Assistant in Finance (up to a maximum of 8 hours per week for 19 weeks).

This part-time role will support a research project, conducted in the Department of Finance, examining the importance of British corporate networks.

Completed at least one year of university education.
