Job Description

Queen’s University School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) require a student to provide IT Support assistance.  The IT Support Assistant posts is based at Computer Science Building (CSB), 18 Malone Road, Belfast.



The post is available from 05 August 2024 to 20 December 2024 in the first instance and may be extended, working up to 16 hours per week.



Main duties associated with this post are: 




  • Provide evening technical support cover on-site in Computer Science Building.

  • Provide user support on-site.

  • Respond to user requests via the school helpdesk.

  • Software installation and configuration.

  • Operating system image deployment.

  • Troubleshooting software installations.

  • IT record keeping and asset management.

  • Support users both onsite and users working remotely.

  • Provide IT technical support for events.

  • PC hardware maintenance and upgrades.

  • Automation using SharePoint Online and MS Office 365 low-code approach.

  • Must be able to work flexibly and cover evening hours required to deliver our evening rota.

  • Lifting and moving of equipment e.g., system units, computer monitors and printers.

  • Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by the supervisor.




Qualifications

Currently registered students at Queen’s University, Belfast entering final year of an Undergraduate course of study in MEng/BSc Computer Science, MEng/BEng Software Engineering/Software and Electronic Systems Engineering, BSc Computing and Information Technology/Business Information Technology.



Skills

  1. Currently registered students at Queen’s University, Belfast entering final year of an Undergraduate course of study in MEng/BSc Computer Science, MEng/BEng Software Engineering/Software and Electronic Systems Engineering, BSc Computing and Information Technology/Business Information Technology.

     

  2. Have one year work experience in a technical support role or have successfully completed a year out placement in a technical support role.

     

  3. 50% average to date in all modules taken to date.

     

  4. All students for whom English is not their first language must have achieved a minimum pass mark of 7.0 in the writing and speaking band of IELTS (International English Language Test Score) or equivalent. Please note a copy of your IELTS results will be requested by email to your QUB email address following submission of your application).

     

  5. Understand Windows Networked environment and know how to configure network settings on a windows machine.

     

  6. Experience of upgrading or maintaining PC hardware.

     

  7. Experience of installing software or operating systems.

     

  8. Proven basic knowledge of regulations and procedures, including H&S requirements.



Desirable Criteria:




  1. At least 60% average to date in modules taken.

  2. Exposure to Linux and Linux network configuration.

  3. Familiarity with University support systems including helpdesks and service desk software

This position is an ideal opportunity for an outstanding candidate to work on a range of projects relating to ethics and sustainability in, for example, small businesses as well as arts and third sector organisations, sustainability initiatives in hard-to-recycle products, and understanding people related aspects in embedding ethics and sustainability in organisations. Qualifications

Enrollment in a PhD Business Management or closely related programme.

Knowledge of and extensive experience in using appropriate online databases (including, but not limited to, ABI Inform, Business Source Premier) to access high quality academic journal articles in the broad areas of business ethics and sustainability. 

Construction of bibliographies related to online searching.

Experience in data input into Excel, SPSS or other related statistical package 

Knowledge of business ethics (and related) theories and practices.

Excellent written communication skills are desirable.

Skills Workshop Delivery

  • Delivering and co-delivering skills sessions.
  • Ideation and developing content for activities, events and programs aligned to student demand.

Marketing and Communications

  • Designing and creating marketing content.
  • Creating and delivering student event campaigns through relevant platforms including social media.
  • Sourcing and managing content on QBS communication platforms including Sharepoint.

Operations Management

  • Project management & reporting. 
  • Developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including AHSS Student Skills Assistants and other delivery partners.
  • Event Logistics including facilities primarily at QBS Student Hub.
  • Tracking student Registrations, Attendance and Event Evaluations.
