Student Services and Systems 

Student Registry team are looking for student helpers, available to work 20 hours minimum, to assist with Winter Graduation 2024. 

Have you got good communication skills? Are you conscientious and able to work well in a team? Then there may be an opportunity for you to perform a very important role in supporting the University?s Winter Graduation 2024. 

These posts are expected to be available from Monday 2 December to Friday 13 December.

Various duties to include - assisting in preparation of graduation brochures/parchments, preparation of the graduation hall, assisting guests and graduands on the day, and other tasks as identified by Student Registry Leads. Working hours will be from 8am - 4pm, unless otherwise specified, during the graduation period. 

It is a requirement of this post that applicants are currently registered and attending a course at Queen's University Belfast for the academic year 2024/25 and for the full period this post is available, otherwise the application will not be considered. 

Applicants must be available for a minimum of 20 hours during each week of the post. Please only submit an application if you are available to commit to this minimum. 

Where applications exceed the required number, appointment for this position will be by random selection.

As part of a research project on interoperable technologies and standards development for virtual worlds and the Metaverse, Medialab requires desk-based research on development practices by key technology vendors. You will be required to conduct technology Horizon Scans, investigate marketing communications, and developer roadmaps to determine strategic direction of a company involved in Metaverse development. 

You will be required to complete a report on your findings, full guidance on the format of this report will be provided. 

The rate of pay for this role is ?17.51 per hour, it is envisaged that this role will take between 30-45 hours to complete.

Investigate key subject areas using the Government Office for Science Futures Toolkit ? Horizon Scan methodology

Collaborate on original research and provide recommendation to other staff and on own specialist areas of expertise

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or relevant area.

Have or be about to obtain a postgraduate qualification involving an element of research training.

Experience in conducting literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative data collection and demonstrate high level of analytical capability.

Ability to assess, organise, analyse resources, and communicate effectively, in written form, digital presentations and oral presentations. 

Independent time management skills, attention to detail and ability to contribute to group activities.

Evidence of being able to work flexibly and to meet deadlines. 

Willingness to work as part of a team.

Student Mooting Officer

The Student Mooting Officer will work alongside the Mooting Co-Ordinator, the Student Law Society Mooting Officer and others on the Mooting Team in helping to run the mooting programme during the academic year and in contributing to the future development of this programme.

The post will require a commitment of a total of 100 hours over the current academic year for which the post holder will receive a payment of ?12.00 per hour.

Background to the Programme

The QUB School of Law Mooting Programme involves undergraduate and postgraduate law students in the exercise of arguing disputed points of law against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have whilst at university to appearing in court.  Mooting involves a number of skills, including legal research, the drafting of written arguments, and oral presentation.  In recent years, teams from the School have performed with distinction in external mooting competitions, and we also have a raft of competitive and training activities within the School.  Our overall aims are to develop students? skills in legal research and legal argument and to maintain and build up the reputation of the School in mooting skills.

 

Responsibilities

  1. To assist in the organisation of training and support sessions for student participants on the programme.
  2. To assist in co-ordinating the development of internal and external events associated with the programme.
  3. To assist in managing the administration of the programme in conjunction with the Mooting Co-ordinator.
  4. To manage the programme?s online presence, including social media.
  5. To liaise with the Research Advocates in publicising mooting activities.
  6. To assist in the development of other advocacy related activities such as mock trials.
