Job Description

Ms Tilly Clough, (School of Law) is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant. 

The successful candidate will work to assess the impact of charitable status on fee-charging independent schools (otherwise known as ?private? schools). This research comes in the context of the current political interest in fee-charging independent schools and will provide effective information about the legal implications of their charitable status.

The successful candidate will assist in collecting data and information on how the Charity Commission regulates charitable independent schools. Although this will largely concentrate on the Charity Commission for England and Wales, both the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator may be considered.

The successful candidate will receive a contract for 60 hours of research assistance at ?16.60 rate per hour. This will likely be completed between September and December 2024, with 6 hours of work per week currently allocated. The successful candidate will receive written credit for their contribution to this research in any research outputs that result from this role.

Qualifications

at least PGT level or above (anyone on Phd and gets external funding can only work 6 hours per week as per funding criteria)



Skills

No prior experience in charity law is necessary. However the successful candidate should have an interest in the topic and have strong research and communication skills.

Provide a service which values and respects cultural and ethnic diversity and maintain and respect confidentiality at all times. 

Observe, adhere to and have a working knowledge of the Childcare Services suite of policies and procedures and adhere to all health and safety regulations appropriate to the childcare facility. 

Ensure effective communications with all team members, children and parents. 

Maintain the equipment and materials in a clean and safe condition. 

To follow guidelines and procedures for safeguarding in accordance with Childcare Services policies and procedures 

To carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by Managers or Supervisors 



Qualifications

Childcare qualifications are desirable but not essential.

You will need to be someone who has a genuine interest in and is enthusiastic about all aspects of childcare and education. You will need to have a caring and dynamic approach, as well as, an ability to manage a group of children. 

You must also have good communication and interpersonal skills, be capable of following oral and written instructions, be flexible, demonstrate a commitment to providing a safe and caring environment for children and have the ability to work well as member of a team. 

You must consent to the pre-employment checks as required for the role.

Childcare experience is essential. 

Please note that this post is casual hours up to 37 per week and hours will vary

Overview of the role

To assist in the project Mapping Bilingual Student Talk in NI Mainstream Classrooms. The project under the lead of Dr. Sultan Turkan (School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work) and in conjunction with external partners seeks to conduct classroom-based research on teacher-bilingual student talk. 

This role offers the opportunity to work with primary teachers and their bilingual students in linguistically and culturally diverse mainstream classrooms.
