Dr John Taggart is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant.

The successful candidate will work on a project focusing on the treatment of vulnerable suspects in police custody. This involves looking at decisions relating to identification of vulnerability, adaptations made for vulnerable suspects in the custody environment and how suspects are enabled to ?effectively participate? in police custody. This is a significantly under-researched area globally and the candidate will have the chance to contribute to research which has the potential to be ?world first?.

Dr Taggart has gathered extensive qualitative data from interviews with police officers, healthcare professionals who work in custody and Registered Intermediaries (Ris). The vast majority of this data has already been transcribed. The Research Assistant will primarily work to analyse this interview data to identify key themes and trends/future research directions. Ultimately, this data will contribute towards a series of journal articles and other research outputs.

Applicants do not need to have any specialist knowledge of police custody, vulnerability or communication studies. However, the successful candidate should have a general interest in the criminal law/criminal justice and have strong research and communication skills.
