Global Mobility Peer Advisor

 

Job Description

The Global Mobility Office (also known as GloMo) is seeking four current King’s students to join us as Peer Advisors for the 2024/25 academic year.  We encourage applications from students from underrepresented and widening participation backgrounds



We are looking for someone friendly, enthusiastic and reliable who has previously studied or worked abroad on a placement facilitated through GloMo (i.e. Summer exchange or a semester/year abroad as part of your degree).  You should have an interest in international education and an awareness of the value of experiencing different cultures.   



This role will involve assisting with the incoming Study Abroad Orientation week in both September and January (welcoming approximately 1000 students across the academic year), as well as other events during the year for both incoming and outgoing students.  You’ll spend two hours per week in the GloMo office working on other administrative tasks and projects, which will vary depending on the office’s needs and your particular skills.  You will also act as an advisor to outgoing students, by talking about your own experiences and challenges whilst studying abroad, and assisting with events such as pre-departure meetings. 



You must be available for the September 2024 (16th – 20th) and January 2025 (8th – 11th) orientation periods to be eligible for this position.  The role will begin from early September 2024 (exact start date can be negotiated, but ideally week commencing 2nd September) and will finish at the end of April 2025. 



Interviews will be held week commencing 12th August via Teams.

About this project:

Eye-tracking technology has emerged as a valuable tool in understanding cognitive processes, particularly in neurodivergent populations. However, despite its widespread use, there's a growing recognition that traditional eye-tracking methodologies may not adequately capture the perspectives of neurodivergent individuals, especially regarding Social Attention?defined as the spontaneous allocation of attention to social stimuli and interactions.

 

Our study exploring the perspective of neurodivergent children and their families on eye-tracking. This project aims to rethink eye-tracking to authentically capture neurodivergent perspectives by engaging neurodivergent children and their families with a parent discussion group and playful activities designed to help children highlight their views and priorities.

We are looking for one student research assistant, to help with smoothing running of the project, example tasks involve: communicating with participants, to arrange study time, to understand what they need; to be involved in the study, note taking.

About this role:

This project is a qualitative project, involves in working with vulnerable group of families. Therefore, we look for someone who is empathetic and patient, a desire to work with children, great communication skills, keen interest in neurodivergent research, passionate about qualitative research, an open-minded approach towards neurodivergent population.

This role is funded at an hourly rate of ?13.64 / hour.

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the processing of non-standard grammatical constructions in speakers of British English using eye-tracking while reading. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

 

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting on-site eye-tracking data collection sessions at the Waterloo Bridge Wing building, located on the Waterloo campus. Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

 

15 hours for preparation, training, and meetings.

40 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants with sessions lasting 1 hours each.

5 hours for data processing.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Psychology or related discipline.

Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics, psychology and/or education research or related field.
