Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced EFL and EAP tutors to join Kings Foundations to teach on our Pre-sessional programmes in summer 2025.
This year there will be two 6-week programmes, one taught online and the other on campus. Both programmes follow the same approach and syllabus, with students attending live classes, lectures and tutorials. (Please note. Online tutors will be required to attend an on-campus induction in London.)
You will work alongside friendly permanent tutors, teaching highly motivated students who are keen to develop their English language and academic literacy skills with you. For tutors new to EAP, training and support will be provided through our buddy scheme, regular team meetings, on-course induction and CPD programme.
The role holder will be expected to complete teaching, assessment & feedback, administration and pastoral duties to a high standard to ensure that the students on the programme receive the best possible student experience and progress onto their degree programmes able to fulfil their potential.
Successful candidates must be UK based, have a UK bank account and be available to be on campus in central London for the first three days of induction (Wed 2nd to 4th July).
Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. We offer 7-week full-time contracts, with all contracts including a paid 5-day induction.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
Undergraduate degree or equivalent
TEFL-I status according to British Council accreditation guidelines. (eg Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL)
Experience of planning and delivering successful English language and skills lessons online.
Experience of planning and delivering successful on campus English language and skills lessons.
Experience of assessing learners English language proficiency and competence.
Experience of providing timely, constructive, actionable feedback on learners work.
Ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to learners of varying ages and from diverse backgrounds
Fluent command of written and spoken English
Awareness of, and commitment to, inclusive practices in the classroom.
Evidence of being able to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds to deliver an excellent student experience.
Desirable criteria
TEFL-Q status according to British Council accreditation guidelines (e.g. Cambridge DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL or PGCE in relevant subject)
Postgraduate degree, preferably in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or other relevant area
Experience of teaching on university-based EAP courses, preferably on pre-sessional courses
Current DBS clearance.

Key responsibilities:
To deliver innovative teaching using communicative pedagogic approaches, as per requirements of the timetable and in line with on campus and online pre-sessional course norms.
To provide a high-quality student experience, including through the provision of timely, actionable feedback and advice.
To take responsibility for managing all aspects of teaching, assessment, administration and tutorials to the required standard.
To act as personal tutor to a group of students, the majority of whom will be postgraduates and from East Asia, for pastoral and academic support. NB. Personal tutors will have additional safeguarding duties for students who are under 18 support will be given for this.
To communicate with other EAP tutors, the pre-sessional coordination team and professional services staff in a professional, collaborative, collegiate manner to ensure the effective delivery of the pre-sessional programme(s).
To engage fully with internal and external quality assurance processes.
To strive for and promote excellence in teaching and learning as an individual and as a member of teaching teams.
To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Pre-sessional & Short Courses or Pre-sessional Team.
The posts will be offered on a fixed-term contracts basis as follows:
Wed 2nd July Tue 19th August 2025 (7-week contract)
This is a full-time post ? 100% full time equivalent. Please make sure you are available for the entire period.

The Youth Insight Project at Queen Mary, University of London is an innovative initiative that highlights the role of creative methodologies in research while fostering youth participation and community engagement. This project connects young people from east London with cutting-edge academic research, allowing them to contribute to the development and analysis of research across diverse fields. By integrating young people as active co-creators of knowledge, the project demonstrates the transformative potential of creative methods in both academia and social change.

The initiative focuses on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting youth-driven research through participatory and peer-led methodologies. By connecting young participants with leading academics, the project underscores the significance of creative methodologies as tools for addressing complex social issues and facilitating social change.

We are recruiting for Youth Insight Researchers to join the project and help to develop new toolkits for academics who are interested in involving young people in their research projects.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attending training sessions to learn about the research projects and develop your skills as a Youth Insight Researcher
  • Agreeing a schedule with the academic whose research project you are placed on (up to 30hrs from April-July 2025)
  • Attending planning sessions, workshops or meetings with the project team
  • Contributing your reflections and ideas on how participatory and peer research with young people is undertaken by the research project you are placed on
  • Writing up your reflections to an agreed template, which suits your skills and the project outcomes
  • Being punctual, staying in communication with the project team, and acting in a professional manner with all project staff and participants

The Diabetes and Obesity Theme has an exciting opportunity for a technician to join the technical team supporting the Theme’s laboratories in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences.



The post involves a wide variety of duties centred on delivery of laboratory support to the Theme including preparation of reagents, ordering and monitoring inventories of shared consumables, and participation in operational rotas as required (e.g. liquid nitrogen replenishment, gas cylinders and waste disposal). The post holder will be expected to assist the technical manager with general laboratory operations to maintain a clean and safe environment and support for laboratory equipment and assessment and procurement of new instrumentation. The post holder will support the running of human islet research tissue bank by organising courier collections and culture of islets, and support the implementation of sustainable laboratory practices.



This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills and gain experience in a diverse range of laboratory techniques and research topics.



Please note, this role will be reviewed month by month as this is maternity cover.  The role is full time, Monday - Friday 9am- 5pm, 100% on site and no hybrid working.

We are searching for a network manager to provide high-level and effective support to the network as they establish their activities. This G5 role is offered 0.4FTE (2 days per week) through to the end of July 2025 (with potential for extension).

Activities for network manager:

  • Continue monthly steering committee meetings
  • Map academics across Faculties who want to be linked to ELRI (capture some basic Jotform details, develop a directory etc)
  • Hold sandpits to start developing grant ideas within our ELRI themes and goals
  • Map our exiting civic and community relationships, and existing infrastructure and projects across QMUL to identify our areas of critical mass, and our institutional strengths


Qualifications

A first degree and a PhD in a relevant area.
