We are seeking a Research Associate to assist on a mixed methods projects looking into antenatal alcohol use.



The core aim of the project is to identify women at risk of continued alcohol use during pregnancy and conduct public and patient (PPIE) and stakeholder consultations, to inform the development of tailored support pathways using Tommy’s pregnancy support app, addressing calls from the Women’s Health Strategy to improve app-based interventions. We’ll embed the voices of service users and health care practitioners (HCPs) within the research through sandpit events. The Tommy’s pregnancy support app is composed of a self-selecting sample of pregnant women who use the app for support and guidance throughout pregnancy.



The project will utilise data from Tommy’s pregnancy support app for women during pregnancy (approximately 88,000 women per year) run by the Charity Tommy’s. We are seeking to examine the prevalence of alcohol use during pregnancy and potential risk factors (e.g. mental health) of alcohol use.



The main aims for the post holder are as follows:



Aims:




  • To carry out the data reduction and analysis of the data from Tommy’s pregnancy support app.

  • To lead on the PPIE events, four of which will be held remotely and one in person at King’s College London.



        



Findings will inform a grant bid to develop tailored support for women at risk who are less likely to access antenatal care early, but may use the Tommy’s app. Using data generated as a result of this seed funding and engagement work to test how we can best determine said risks and develop targeted support.

  • Understanding of the research process and research ethics

  • Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality, data protection and GDPR in the UK

  • Experience of co-production and/or Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement in maternal healthcare

  • Experience with substance use research in high risk populations is essential

  • Experience of big data.

We wish to appoint a student who will support the South London Stroke Register (SLSR) team within the School of Life Course and Population Sciences with the entry and verification of research data. The SLRS, led by the stroke research group at King?s College London, is the largest and longest running registry of stroke patients internationally, with over 8,600 patients registered since 1995. It aims to recruit all patients with a first stroke in a defined geographical area of South London to estimate the incidence, acute care and short- and long-term needs of stroke survivors in a multi-ethnic inner-city population. The cohort is used by multi-disciplinary groups to address relevant questions to the local population and stroke survivors, and also at a national and international level. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team and in close collaboration with the data and programme manager and fieldworkers of the SLSR. Key duties will involve: ? Entry of questionnaire data into the study software (Teleform) ? Verification and review of the entered research/health data

OSCE Invigilation

Tuesday 21st January 2025 & Wednesday 22nd January 2025 Denmark Hill.

Applicants must NOT be part of the MBBS course at King's College London or the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine.

You will be invigilating for OSCE Exams for the Medical Students. OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Exams) are split into different circuits made up of 6 stations. Each station has a different scenario, which lasts 8 minutes. Students will be examined on their performance of each station.

Once they complete a station, they will move on to the next station, which is in numerical order. The exam runs as a loop, so if there are 6 stations, the student will go back to station 1 after finishing station 6. The exam finishes when they have completed all the stations of the circuit.

After the students have completed the circuit, they return to the student holding rooms whilst the supporting staff (incl. invigilators) prepare the stations & circuits for the next group of students as well as collate the examiner feedback sheets for them to be returned to the students before they are dismissed.

Key responsibilities   

  • To support the Lead Invigilator in carrying out their duties by attending briefing sessions prior to and following exam sessions as required.  
  • To assist with setting up the circuit(s): putting out clipboards, sharp pencils, and rubbers inside each station. 
  • Assist with the set-up of equipment (training will be given for the setting up of props or the resetting of station equipment). 
  • To assist students before the exam begins, ensuring that all students are correctly located and ready for the exam.   
  • To invigilate the examination circuits and guide students between stations during the exam.  
  • Direct examiners, patients, simulated patients to the correct stations. 
  • Be the first response for examiner questions or concerns, raising issues with the lead invigilator or senior examiner quickly and efficiently. 
  • To vigilantly monitor the room/allocated area throughout the exam in session whilst not disrupting the candidates; and ensuring a calm environment conducive to supporting students to be successful in their exams.  
  • To ensure that noise levels on the examination circuit are kept to a minimum and that examination conditions are maintained throughout 
  • To promptly report any incidents that may impact a candidate's performance to the Lead Invigilator, Circuit Lead (Marshall), OSCE Site Lead, or Senior Examiner. 
  • To ensure that, at the end of the exam, all iPads and materials are collected and returned to the relevant place according to set procedures as advised by the Lead Invigilator.
