Job Description

Do you have experience of working in Library Services (Enquiries) or a similar busy service environment? If so, this role could be perfect for you! We will be paying £17.22 per hour plus holiday pay to the successful candidates who will be providing cover Monday-Friday 8am - 4pm on a rota basis. 



Summary



The post holder carries out a range of administrative duties as part of a team, and deals with in-person, telephone and email enquiries from service users, contributing to a safe, friendly and efficient environment for academic study. They assist staff and students in navigating the physical and online collections, locating materials and carrying out catalogue searches, as well as using self-service book issue and return points, print-scan-copy services, assistive technologies and IT basics. The post holder logs enquiries and captures feedback from service users to inform service improvements, and ensures that service standards within their area of work are consistently met.



Post-holders in the Enquiries sub-team are also responsible for:




  • Understanding how to navigate the full range of library search systems and collections, including print, online and multimedia, in order to support all Queen Mary students in successfully finding and using academic information at the point of need

  • Using high level interpersonal skills and reference interview techniques to support individual students, enabling them to access the full range of library and university services, including those of which they would be otherwise unaware

  • Understanding the services offered by other teams inside Library Services and across the university in order to facilitate effective triage and referral of enquiries

  • Providing tours and basic inductions for visitors and new service users throughout the year

  • Assisting members of the Queen Mary community, including disabled students and alumni, as well as external visitors, to gain access to library buildings and services

  • Experience of working in Library Services or similar transferable work experience of a busy service environment

  • Experience of using Library Management Systems and other automated systems for administrative purposes

  • Awareness of privacy and data protection in a library context

  • Excellent awareness of health, safety and security issues in a busy service environment, and strong commitment to maintenance and improvement of health & safety standards

  • Good IT skills including email, Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Able to learn, understand and consistently apply a range of policies, procedures and working methods

  • Able to respond flexibly to a wide range of enquiries, using judgement about when to pass on more complex enquiries

  • Able to display a calm and positive demeanour at all times, responding well to pressure points in the academic year

  • Able to work independently as well as within teams, able to collaborate with a range of colleagues

  • Able to prioritise own workload, making common sense choices during peaks and troughs in the working day

  • Excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring that tasks are completed to a high standard at all times

  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job, which include periods of standing, periods of working at a busy service desk, regular manual handling of books and trolleys, working in closed storage areas, and moving to upper floors to assist library users with finding materials

This is an on-site post and regular remote working is not supported. Your home site is Mile End Library. Please note that this is a multisite service, and your role will involve regularly working at more than one site or being located at a site other than your home site as and when needed to meet the demands of the services

Purpose of the post

The School of The Built Environment and Architecture (BEA) offers some of London?sbest

courses in areas such as architecture, building services engineering, civil engineering, construction management, quantitysurveying and buildingsurveying. All our courses are closely linked with industry and accredited by the relevant professional institutions to the highest possible level.

 

Our apprenticeship offer is rapidlyexpanding and we are seeking passionate and driven Skills Reviewers who are committed to working with our academics and industry partners to develop the best Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in the sector. This particular post will sit within the division of Civil and Building Services.

 

The postholder will provide guidance and support to apprentices to work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours they will need to successfully complete their apprenticeship, and will liaise with employers to ensure the apprentice?s learning needs are being met in the workplace.Progress review meetingswith each apprentice and their employer will be undertaken at least three times a year for the duration of their programme, either in person at the apprentice?s workplace, or remotely via MS Teams.

 

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and developing good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Industry experience would be an advantage. They will be comfortable working independently and will have excellent organisational and time management skills.

 

Please note we are willing to consider applications for part-time hours.

 

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Work alongside both the Apprenticeship Team and School academics to provide proactive and reactivevocational and educational support to apprentices and their line managers throughout the apprenticeship scheme.

 

  1. Monitor apprentice progression against knowledge, skills and behaviour standards (as well as functional skills where appropriate) and provide feedbackto both the apprentice and their line manager.

 

  1. Undertake regular progress review meetings with apprentices and mentors as required. These meetingswill either take place at the apprentice?s workplace; the University; or via MS Teams.

 

  1. Support the apprentice to prepare for theirend-point assessment.


 

  1. Work with employersand academic colleagues to support the agreement of on and off the job development plans with the apprentices and monitor and record progress to ensure that both the university and employer remain compliant.

 

  1. Work with the Apprenticeship Team and Teaching, Quality and Enhancement to ensure all qualityassurance requirements relevantto the educational support of an apprentice are being met.

 

  1. Ensure that all learning activity is recorded and auditable in line with funding regulations and that any university delivery, process and monitoring systemsare adhered to within the agreed time limits.

 

  1. Contribute to the development of appropriate programme systems and processes.

 

  1. Complete any requiredlearning and development activities required to enhance your knowledge and perform the role more effectively.

 

  1. Ensure that procedures for access to, and retention of, information withinthe School comply with the requirements of the University and the General Data Protection Regulation.

 

The Apprenticeship Team Leader / Dean may requestadditional duties that are withinthe scope, spirit and purpose of the role. Within reason, the duties and role of the post holder may be changed, after appropriate consultation, in response to changing organisational requirements.

The casual health & fitness coach role is important in helping King’s Sport & Wellness deliver its range of services to all members across our 3 main gym sites. You will work closely with the full-time health and fitness coaches and the gym operations supervisors to ensure that members are given a world class experience. The role is a zero hour contract and shifts are allocated subject to need. There are always shifts at the weekend, and to cover the full time teams annual leave, and duties off site. 



 



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: 





  1. Level two fitness coach qualification or equivalent 







  1. A good level of education (A-level) or equivalent

  • To deliver a range of fitness classes, inductions and programs that ensures our members are engaged and educated in fitness and their physical wellbeing  




  • To monitor and coach gym members to ensure their safety and the use of correct techniques when exercising therefore providing quality member experiences  




  • To support the gym team to continually maintain and exceed operational performance of the gyms. 




  • To assist in the operational systems and processes of managing health and fitness memberships and services and ensure all card transactions are accurately reported. 




  • Ensure all operating policies are adhered to whilst in the gyms - being responsible for the opening and closing procedures and ensuring all equipment and the building operates within Health & Safety guidelines as required. 




  • To develop positive working relationships with the health and fitness coaches, King’s Sport & Wellness staff, and other student service providers within the University to enhance students’ experience

King's Clinical Academic Training Office (KCATO) is looking for a flexible, proactive and organised individual who can help us temporarily as our team gets to grips with some new work. The role is based at Guy's campus with work across all campuses as need arises, and includes attending in person meetings and events.

 

Events & Meetings (approximately one or two per month)

Manage attendee bookings, dealing with enquiries

Manage room, AV and catering bookings

Manage some communications, such as creating blurbs for events

Handle feedback and report on attendance data
