Student Administration Project Officer

 

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 



 



support the Business Process and Data Insight Lead and Head of Student Administration with continued transition process resulting from the “Fit for the Future” departmental restructure, including the coordination of the activities, including project management, administration, arranging meetings and events.



 



Support service delivery alongside the production of high-quality project documentation for example, chasing/supporting reports, decision logs and outstanding actions.



 



Work professionally, confidentially and effectively as a key liaison with other internal stakeholders, dealing with written and oral queries from staff and other university departments.



 



Working alongside the Business Process and Data Insight Lead to, record, report and deliver monthly reporting, within Student Operations and the wider Student Journey Directorate.



 



Contribute to the review and implementation of policies and procedures ensuring a consistent and effective provision of administrative services within the Student Administration Team for all stakeholders, collecting and collating data to help highlight trends.



To participate and represent Student Administration as a member of working and project groups across the University to ensure compliance and consistent practice.



 



Undertake training in all areas of Student Administration (Exams, Assessments & Awards, Course Support and Enquiry and Student Engagement) to be able to support core services at peak and business critical times.

Experience  




  1. A minimum of two year’s practical administration experience (E) working in a higher education setting (D), supporting and resolving students concerns both face to face and online (D).

  2. Experience of successfully supporting the management of projects (E) and interpret and report on departmental and other data sources (D).

  3. Experience of maintaining accurate records, (E) the use the IT systems/software to gather and evaluate data (E) and providing regular reports to key stakeholders. (E).

  4. To be able to use own initiative to plan, prioritise and organise own varied workload, in a timely manner (E), to approach challenges/problems in a flexible, creative and proactive way (E).

  5. Excellent organisational skills (E) to cope with high volumes of work and support team members during stressful periods in the academic year in a calm and efficient manner (E).

  6. Demonstrated ability to multi-tasks on a variety of projects ensuring that milestones are met and outcomes achieved. (E)

  7. To be committed to and have experience of the application of ICT in administration (E). Knowledge of word processing, databases and spreadsheets (E) and of the use of the web (D). Willingness and ability to learn new packages in order to carry out the duties of the role (E).

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the processing of non-standard grammatical constructions in speakers of British English using eye-tracking while reading. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

 

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting on-site eye-tracking data collection sessions at the Waterloo Bridge Wing building, located on the Waterloo campus. Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

 

15 hours for preparation, training, and meetings.

40 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants with sessions lasting 1 hours each.

5 hours for data processing.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Psychology or related discipline. 

 



Skills

Essential:

Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., good Excel command).

Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics, psychology and/or education research or related field.

 

Desirable:

Interest in eye-tracking methodologies.

Experience with statistical analysis applied to language-related research.

 

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the development of Catalan as a heritage language in the United Kingdom. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting remote participant in two testing sessions in a battery of tasks (assessment of receptive vocabulary, production of specific syntactic structures and elicitation of spontaneous production data). Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

1. 30 hours for preparation, training, and finalizing materials.

2. 100 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants in two sessions lasting 1 hour each hours, alongside organization of the data from testing sessions for 30 minutes. In total, the RA will spend 2.5 hour per participant.

3. 20 hours for initial data trimming.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Education, Psychology or related discipline.

Excellent working proficiency in both Catalan and English

DBS certificate
