Job Description

The Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT) are recruiting for an exciting new temporary position as a TEL Assistant – video and content editor. We are looking for a creative individual with an interest in video editing. The role is a three month contract starting from October 2023 and ending December 2023, working with us for approximately fifteen hours a week.



The Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT), part of IT Services at QMUL provides strategic oversight of e-learning at QMUL.They are responsible for institution-wide Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) applications such as:




  1. QMplus, the online learning environment.

  2. Q-Review lecture capture.

  3. Turnitin, used in assignments to assist with detecting copyright content.

  4. Kaltura for media streaming.



 



Main duties: 



The candidate will be required to assist the TELT team with a range of different tasks. However the main task will be to contribute to a large project which will involve updating, editing and creating a wide range of guidance and training materials. These include video and written formats.



Responsibilities of the post include: 




  • Update, edit and create new guidance materials.

  • Engage with various software, systems and editing tools.

  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of all content.

  • Keep accurate records and maintain regular communication.

  • Work closely with colleagues across the TELT team to enhance and improve content as well as identifying areas of improvement.

  • To provide support to all users.



Qualifications

This role would be suitable for a QM Undergraduate or Postgraduate



Skills

The following requirements are essential to the role:




  • Experience of using Moodle / QMplus.

  • Experience of video creation and editing.

  • Confident using virtual conferencing and meeting software such as Zoom and Teams.

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office package especially Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to learn and use new technology within a short amount of time.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in person and virtually.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work flexibly to meet targets. Comfortable completing tasks as part of a team as well as autonomously .

  •  Able to follow guidance and direction. Welcoming feedback and learning from it.



 



The following are beneficial to the role:




  • Awareness of other learning technologies used at Queen Mary including ECHO 360/Q-Review, QMplus Hub/ Mahara and  QMplus Media/Kaltura.

  • Familiarity with relevant tools and software such as Camtasia.

  • Experience working in a educational environment.

  • Customer support / service experience.

  • Written communication skills including user guides and training materials.

The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

40 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants with sessions lasting 1 hours each.

Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Psychology or related discipline.

Essential:

Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., good Excel command).

Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics, psychology and/or education research or related field.

 

Desirable:

Interest in eye-tracking methodologies.

Experience with statistical analysis applied to language-related research.

 

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the development of Catalan as a heritage language in the United Kingdom. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting remote participant in two testing sessions in a battery of tasks (assessment of receptive vocabulary, production of specific syntactic structures and elicitation of spontaneous production data). Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

1. 30 hours for preparation, training, and finalizing materials.

2. 100 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants in two sessions lasting 1 hour each hours, alongside organization of the data from testing sessions for 30 minutes. In total, the RA will spend 2.5 hour per participant.

3. 20 hours for initial data trimming.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Education, Psychology or related discipline.

Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., good Excel command)

Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics, psychology and/or education research or related field

Excellent working proficiency in both Catalan and English

DBS certificate 

 

Desirable:

Experience working with children

Good organisational skills
