Job Description

Wild Ways aims to understand and influence urban-rewilding behaviour in London’s private residential gardens. This addresses the issue of declining vegetation and biodiversity in urban gardens. Small adaptations to gardens can create significant wildlife habitat, which is vital in a time of increasing urbanisation and ecological crisis.



 



Objectives of the project



The research’s objectives follow four stages:




  1. To scope the existing literature on urban-rewilding behaviour, coded using the ‘COM-B’ behaviour model (complete);

  2. To conduct mixed-methods research to understand the capability, opportunity and motivational factors influencing urban-rewilding behaviour (complete);

  3. To develop of an intervention strategy to promote urban-rewilding behaviour, using the ‘Behaviour Change Wheel’ framework (in progress);.

  4. To test the intervention strategy through Rewild My Street.



 



To support this project, we need a research assistant to help with the following tasks:




  • Conduct qualitative (desk-based) research. The outputs of this task will be:


    1. A participatory research toolkit





For this you will need to:




  • Utilise and deploy qualitative research techniques under the supervision of the Lead in the project.

  • Undertake literature searches as appropriate.

  • Assist in the development of the toolkit.

  • Assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, as directed.




  • Presentation of findings:




  • Assist with the presentation of findings.

  • Participate in the documentation of the results arising from research activity.

  • Contribute towards the publication of research findings in suitable publications.




  • Planning and managing resources




  • Work to deadlines and manage competing priorities, with direction as appropriate from project leads.




  • University/school profile




  • As appropriate, liaise with relevant internal and external contacts/organisations in related areas of study.



 



This is a great opportunity for a graduate student or PGR student who want to further develop skills around academic research (qualitative) and writing.



 



No teaching is required for this role.



The position will be for remote working.



NB. Maximum 80 hours in total.




Qualifications

Honours degree (min 2.1) and masters degree in an Arts subject preferable.



Skills

Candidates must be proficient in graphic design tools (Canva, InDesign, etc); adept at producing a range of effective promotional materials for digital and print; and have an enthusiastic, professional and conscientious attitude, working independently, remotely and with initiative. They should have good knowledge of and engagement in urban rewilding activities, and skills/sensibility in graphic design and visual imagery.

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the processing of non-standard grammatical constructions in speakers of British English using eye-tracking while reading. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

 

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting on-site eye-tracking data collection sessions at the Waterloo Bridge Wing building, located on the Waterloo campus. Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

 

15 hours for preparation, training, and meetings.

40 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants with sessions lasting 1 hours each.

5 hours for data processing.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Psychology or related discipline. 

 



Skills

Essential:

Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., good Excel command).

Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics, psychology and/or education research or related field.

 

Desirable:

Interest in eye-tracking methodologies.

Experience with statistical analysis applied to language-related research.

 

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the development of Catalan as a heritage language in the United Kingdom. The project is led by Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King?s College London.

The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting remote participant in two testing sessions in a battery of tasks (assessment of receptive vocabulary, production of specific syntactic structures and elicitation of spontaneous production data). Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:

1. 30 hours for preparation, training, and finalizing materials.

2. 100 hours for testing: accommodating 40 participants in two sessions lasting 1 hour each hours, alongside organization of the data from testing sessions for 30 minutes. In total, the RA will spend 2.5 hour per participant.

3. 20 hours for initial data trimming.

 

The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.

 

Interviews will take place mid-January.

 



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Education, Psychology or related discipline.
