Job Description
We are looking for a Technician to support our Biochemistry, Genetics and Forensic Science practical classes at the Waterloo Campus. Duties will include the following:
-Being part of the team responsible for organising the running of practical classes.
-Help with setting up and clearing the labs.
-Demonstrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring safety and reliability.
-Washing up of glassware and autoclaving media.
-Restocking lab consumables such a tips, tubes, gloves, etc.
-Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including the safe disposal of hazardous materials. Induction training on laboratory procedures/hazards will be given.
QualificationsMinimum level 3 qualification e.g. A levels, AS levels, International Baccalaureate, or other level 3 qualification, plus work experience in a relevant technical/scientific post.
Skills-Experience of practical teaching either as a student or technician.
-Basic lab skills such as pipetting, making solutions/buffers, plate pouring.
-Basic molecular biology skills and knowledge.
-Good communication skills.
-Willing to learn.
-Good organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines.
-An awareness of Health and Safety governing area of work, particularly in relation to laboratory waste disposal and recycling.
