Job Description

This particular role is a full time assignment and is not suitable for a student.

Working hours Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm

The face of King?s? is the primary focus for this role and involves being available to help and support students, staff, and visitors when they are on site.  Most of this role will be on ?the shop floor?, supporting the community in our public spaces. Good customer service skills are required to support the Directorates vision of ?World class services, for a world class University.? The post holder will have good communication skills, and to act as a key information contact for stakeholders.

Along with customer service, this role will have a strong focus on H&S, focusing on stewarding of high traffic areas (pinch points) throughout the day due to high levels of campus activity. You will play a vital role in ensuring that we provide a safe working environment of all building users by identifying issues and reporting via the correct channels. You will also act in the capacity of fire evacuation marshal in the event of a fire alarm activation.

The successful candidate will be required to work five shifts in seven on a revolving shift pattern in accordance with the needs of the business.

Customer Service and Quality

  • Become the familiar face for all building users to assist with the delivery a world class campus experience.
  • To role model the highest levels of customer care though the Fit for King?s programme and monitor, where required, the quality of all services provided to the community.
  • Helping all building users with wayfinding, knowledge of campus activity and general queries whilst highlighting health and safety issues and promoting positive behaviours

Communication

  • To be confident and pro-active in conversing with students, staff and visitors.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all members of the Campus Operations team and communicate regularly with their line manager with any new or important issues as they may arise.
  • Work cohesively within a team of 12+ individuals, motivating, supporting and driving the team forward for the benefit of the business.

Manage flow of building occupants

  • Actively encouraging the flow of staff and students through high traffic areas (pinch points) when entering/exiting teaching spaces, informal learning space etc. and politely moving on students and staff who are congregating in corridor areas.
  • To act in the capacity of evacuation marshal as required, by monitoring areas to prevent re-entry to affected spaces as well as shepherding staff and students away from the buildings.

General

  • The successful candidate will be required to work five shifts in seven revolving shift patterns in accordance with the needs of the business.
  • The post holder may be required to undertake other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
  • To take pride in their appearance, ensuring immaculate presentation in line with campus activity

Job Description

As part of this role, you will be working closely with the Risk group convenors to ensure regular activities are organised. Core responsibilities associated with this role include:

  • Support with the organisation of a number of seminars (e.g., logistics; advertising);
  • Collating and sending occasional newsletters to the group;
  • Help support and disseminate other relevant events and initiatives;
  • Managing the RISK mailing list (e.g., adding new members, responding to emails);
  • Managing social media channels: Twitter;
  • Raising awareness about the group and its activities, in particular with new students and staff in relevant research fields

Depending on your interest other activities can be undertaken, e.g., developing a number of posters for the annual Society for Risk Analysis-Europe meeting; organise activities related to specific event (e.g., Sustainability month; Pint of Science Festival).

This role will cover the period October 2024-June 2025.

The Risk and Society research group was formed a number of years ago to provide a collaborative focus for the wide range of interdisciplinary research issues relating to the broader risk field ranging from risk communication,  risk analysis, risk governance, regulation, resilience, and risk management.  In the past we have worked on a number of topics including floods, health and safety, wild fires and food safety. The Risk and society group has existed for more than 10 years and depending on the year in question gathers 20 or so academics at different career stages (PhD, PDRAs, Lecturers, Prof.). The group provides a lively space for interdisciplinary conversations on various aspects relating to the broader area of risk and society. Activities organised in previous years include internal events (e.g., seminars), and ad hoc external events (e.g., ESRC social science festival; contribution to Pint of Science). The scope of activities is always evolving and open to new suggestions.
