Research Assistant For Sudan Memory Project History And Inventory

Job Description

This position will support the research team working on the King?s College London AHRC Thematic Impact Acceleration Funded project, Sudan Memory Project History and Inventory. A key aspect of the project is researching and recording a comprehensive oral and written history of the Sudan Memory project (https://www.sudanmemory.org/) since 2013, including through oral histories with the founding partners. The Research Assistant will support the research team in achieving this by completing the following activities:

  • Scheduling 12 interviews between research team and interviewees.
  • Tidying up and editing autogenerated interview transcripts.
  • Translating Arabic portions of transcript to English.
  • Adding keywords and metadata to interview recordings and transcripts.
  • Naming and saving interview files and transcripts so that they can be accessed by research team.


Qualifications
  • BA in History, Journalism, or another related field.


Skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency in English and Arabic
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Past experience managing digital assets is preferable.

We are hiring two student Research Assistants (RAs) to work on a project to improve an existing dataset of UK Impact Assessments (UKIAs). The role involves:

 

  • Cleaning an existing, scraped dataset
  • Collecting and merging additional data on relevant SpAds and responsible ministers (sources identified)

 

Objective:

Produce a clean, comprehensive Excel dataset of UKIAs that includes details on responsible ministers and SpAds.

 

Output:

An Excel spreadsheet with the final dataset.

 

Conditions:

 

  • Remote work possible
  • C.a. 5?15 hours per week
  • Total 100 hours between both RAs


Qualifications

No special qualifications required. Open to both undergraduate and graduate applicants.



Skills

Required:

-      Proficient in MS Excel.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Experience with data cleaning, manipulation, or dataset creation.
  • Familiarity with Python is useful, but not required.
  • Interest in UK policymaking and/or evidence-based policymaking.
  • Aspiration toward a research-oriented career (e.g., pursuing a PhD) is an asset.
