Education Research Assistant

 

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled researcher with experience of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to contribute to an educational project being funded as part of King's Academy Race, Equity & Inclusion Fund (REIEF).  The role requires the individual to have an understanding of educational research, interest in issues around EDI,  and specifically experience of facilitating focus groups, developing questionnaires and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.  The successful application will support the development of an initial literature to underpin a protocol for ethical approval and then subsequent data collection and analysis.  The project is exploring ? Equity and Inclusion in a Eurocentric space from a Global Student Perspective?.



Qualifications
  • PhD or studying for a PhD in a discipline relevant to the Project (Education/EDI)
  • Masters Degree in a discipline relevant to the Project (Education/EDI)

  • experience of working to agreed deadlines and project management
  • experience of qualitative & quantitative methods;  data collection and analysis
  • experience literature searching & critical appraisal

King's Sport & Wellness is seeking a highly passionate individual who employs a person-first approach to deliver individualized coaching and mentoring services to athletes within our Individual Performance Programme and TASS athletes. Our goal is to support athlete well-being while fostering their personal and professional development, alongside their competitive sporting careers, as they transition to, through, and beyond King's College London.

In this role, you will provide holistic support, addressing both personal and lifestyle needs while promoting activity and development that enables athletes to grow both as individuals and as sports performers. You will work proactively to assist athletes in planning their transition to and from elite-level sport, offering continued long-term support as needed.

We support a diverse range of individuals, and this role will involve working closely with our key partners, including TASS, Charlton Athletic, local councils, and King's Performance Athletes. Your work will be delivered through one-on-one appointments as well as group workshops. This is a part-time position, with a maximum of 10 hours per week, though hours may vary throughout the year. Flexibility is required, including availability to work evenings when necessary.



Qualifications

Must hold either Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (TALS) or Level 3 Certificate in Athlete Personal Development and Lifestyle (ADPL)



Skills

 

  • Previous experience working in a similar role supporting TASS and/or university student athletes
  • Experience in providing holistic support that addresses not only athletes' performance but also their personal, mental, and emotional well-being. You should be comfortable offering guidance on lifestyle, career development, and transitioning out of elite sport.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with athletes, team members, and key partners. You should be able to deliver information clearly and supportively in both one-on-one settings and group workshops.
  • The ability to adapt to different situations and respond flexibly to the varying needs of athletes. This includes being available for evening appointments when necessary, and adjusting your approach based on the time of year or individual circumstances.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage individual appointments, workshops, and varying workloads efficiently within the part-time nature of the role.
  • Strong ability to actively listen and engage with athletes in a way that is empathetic and non-judgmental. You must be able to build trust and rapport, creating a safe space for athletes to discuss their personal, academic, and sporting challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, liaising with coaches, performance staff, and external partners
  • A good understanding of the challenges faced by athletes when transitioning from elite-level sport, as well as strategies for supporting that transition, would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience of being a high performing athlete is desirable
