KCDHH Biobank Data Administrator

Job Description

The King?s College Denmark Hill Haematology Biobank (KCDHH) is based at the Rayne Institute in King?s College London (KCL)?s Denmark Hill Campus and collects bone marrow, blood and other tissue samples from patients treated in the Department of Clinical Haematology at King?s College Hospital (KCH) and referring hospitals in the region. Our Biobank has an excellent record of HTA (Human Tissue Authority) compliance and robust Governance structure and a custom-build databases. In the last few years, the Biobank has seen an upgrade in the data system which captures clinical data, an essential element of biobanking; providing quality samples to researchers with accurately annotated and useful clinical data which will help advance our understanding of haematological disorders through translational research.  

​The post holder will be responsible for the provision of high-quality data coordination and administrative support for the Biobank which has over than 27,000 banked samples.  

​The post holder will work closely with the Data Manager and will need to be able to demonstrate good computer skills and have an eye for detail.  

​The post holder will need to ensure all confidential and sensitive information is kept secure at all times and adhere to all local policies, procedures and good governance practices.​ 

It's a fully remote Job, key responsibilities are:

  1. Extracting clinical data from various sources and accurately enter the data onto the Biobank database  
  2. Ensuring data integrity is maintained at all times and to raise any issues with senior colleagues
  3. Assisting with database developments

Skills

​​​Educated to A-Level or completion of a relevant vocational course 

​Previous data collection / entry experience 

​Experience of working in a clinical or research environment 

​Attention to detail and an ability to interpret patient records and extract high quality clinical data 

​​Excellent IT skills, including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (in particular, Excel) 

​Desirable criteria 

​Knowledge of medical terminology 

​Experience in tissue banking​

The hours of work per week will vary depending on event requirements. There is no minimum hours required to work per week, however students are expected to work a minimum of 2 events /open days

Personal characteristics/ other requirements; - Current student at King?s College London - Currently live or lived in King?s College London residences - Excellent team player - Friendly and approachable face-to-face manner - Enthusiasm for Higher Education and King?s - Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines - Ability to work independently and take the initiative when necessary - Willingness to work out of normal hours and occasionally travel for work as necessary - Highly organised - Willing to offer training and support to others in best practice
